Down on the Kibbie's Farm

So we had a miracle last week.  This tree was so close to my neighbors house that we needed to hire someone to come cut it down.  We were planning have it cut down the following week when a nice windstorm whipped through.   The whole time it was storming I was praying that the tree wouldn't fall.  Later my neighbor told me she was praying it wouldn't hit the house.  The next thing I knew, my kids were yelling that it had fallen.  My heart sank.  I looked out the window and saw that it fell perfectly between their house and ours without touching anything.  No kids were out there either.  Our prayers were answered!

We added three new friends to our farm last week.  Three Nigerian Dwarf goats.  In a year we will be able to milk them.  In the mean time they are fertilizing my future garden.

Yard work

Having a large yard has it's benefits and drawbacks.  The amount of leaves that fall from the many trees is amazing.  I raked the part of the yard about three times and there are still leaves on the ground.  I'm grateful for all the leaves to put into my compost pile and for my kids to play in.  Raking is a good workout as well.

Spring, how I love you!

I love spring!  The invitation to warm weather is intriguing and puts me in the most beautiful of moods. I love where we live!  I can step out my back door and hear roosters crowing, horses neighing, and wind blowing through the trees.

We are now working as quickly as possible to prepare our yard for my dream garden.  If you like yard work and want to help we would love to see you on our door step!  This year we will be preparing much of the soil to be able to plant more next year. 

To help our soil, we are raising 24 chickens, 5 ducks and soon we will have 3 guinea hens.  Next year I'm hoping for a couple of goats as well.  Here are some pictures of our 4 weeek old chickens enjoying bugs under our burried trampoline. There is also a picture of our 4 day old ducks.  Aren't they cute?
